TRAINING TIPS

DYNAMIC WARMUP #2

Dynamic warmups are essential before you jump into the water.
 
This exercise, demonstrated by Coach Isaac, begins with a bear plank in a tabletop position before lifting the knees to engage the abdominals. By rotating and kicking your leg through (hence the title, "kick through") you're working shoulder rotation and oblique activation before ending in a downward dog.

A good beginner version is to tap your hand to your opposite knee. The next progression is to work your way into the rotation but not a full leg extension. The most advanced version is to kick the leg straight out without touching the ground.
 
Rinse and repeat till you feel warmed up! 

SWIM WORKOUT

 

Please note, these intervals are for short course yards but feel free to adjust as necessary. Refer to the following USMS Pace Chart for interval adjustments.

 

Warm up: (Set yards: 800)

  • 400 swim
  • 200 kick
  • 200 pull

Set 1: Three rounds (Set yards: 1350)

  • 200 IM drill 3:30
  • 3x50 kick on back 1:00
    • round 1- fly kick on back
    • round 2- breast kick
    • round 3- free kick
  • 100 IM swim 2:00

Set 2: Four rounds (Set yards: 2800)

  • 6x50 2 swim/1 kick 0:55
  • 300 free pull fast 4:30
  • 100 easy 2:30
