Sign Up for the 2024 New England SCY Championship

 

The 2024 New England LMSC Short Course Yards Championship is coming up soon! Join us March 15-16 for what's sure to be one of our most exciting meets yet. AGUA Masters has attended this meet in the past, and we're hoping to return and compete in the Blodgett Pool at Harvard University. 

 

Get ready jump in for some fast racing, cheer for our teammates, and enjoy team dinners. Please contact Coach Jim at jwu@asphaltgreen.org if you have questions about the meet.

Meet Coach Isaac Gomez!

 

You may have seen him teaching kids how to swim, training in the gym and pool, or walking up and down the pool deck inspecting your form. Read on for a Q&A with Coach Isaac:

 

Q) How long have you been swimming with AGUA Masters?  

A) I’ve been swimming with AGUA Masters since 2014.

Q) What's your favorite stroke / distance / event.   

A) 50 / 100 Breaststroke and 100 IM.

Q) Which practice times do you normally attend? 

A) You can usually find me coaching noon practices for Masters and working with the AGUA Swim Team kids at Asphalt Green's Battery Park City campus.

Q) What's your favorite AGUA Masters memory?

A) So far I would say having a meeting with Jack Fabian who was the AGUA Masters Head Coach a few years ago, He motivated me to start learning more about coaching Masters.

Q) What do you do (your job)?  

A) I’ve got a Bachelor's Degree in Physical therapy (Ecuador). I still have some patients that I guide online in Ecuador.  At this moment I’m an Assistant Swim Coach for AGUA Swim Team Age Groups and Lead Swim Coach at Asphalt Green's Battery Park City campus. I’m taking my certifications as a Tri-Coach level 1, hopefully, in a couple of weeks I’ll be certified Tri-Coach level 1.

Q) What song(s) are you listening to on repeat right now?

A) Everybody wants to rule the world – Tears for Fears.

As it Was – Harry Styles.

Cold Heart – Elton John.

The Goodness of God – Church of the City.

Q) What do you like to do outside of the pool for fun? 

A) Hit the road on my bike, read, and invest in quality time with my family.

Swim Workout

 

Please note, these intervals are for short course yards but feel free to adjust as necessary. Refer to the following USMS Pace Chart for interval adjustments: 

 

Warm Up: (Set yards: 800)

  • 800 SKIP as 200 swim, 200 kick, 200 IM drill, and 200 pull

Set 1: Three rounds (Set yards: 1500)

  • 100 swim (smooth )
  • 2 x 50 steady kick at 0:55
  • 2 x 150 pull at 2:30

Set 2: Three rounds (Set yards: 1350)

  • 10 x 25 (at 50 race pace effort) at 1:00
  • 200 easy recovery at 4:00
