MEET OUR COACHES
Mathias Altman-Kurosaki
Mathias Altman-Kurosaki was born and raised in New York City as the youngest of five kids – swimmers or divers. Mathias competed for the AGUA club team from 2009-18, and then swam for The College of New Jersey from 2018-21. At TCNJ, Mathias specialized in distance freestyle and butterfly and was the team's Rookie of the Year as a freshman, as well as an All-Conference team member in the 400 IM as a senior.
He began swimming masters in graduate school at Syracuse University and has placed in the top 10 of his age group at USMS Nationals each year since 2022. He joined the AGUA Masters coaching staff in the spring of 2024. Away from the pool, Mathias studied journalism in college and grad school, earning his master's degree with a sports media focus from Syracuse's Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2022. He hosts a weekly baseball podcast called "Losses Above Replacement" and writes for a USA-Today affiliated website called Mesmerized Online. He is also an avid fan of the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the New York Knicks.
