CONGRATULATIONS JOHN CHAMBERS
Every two years, World Aquatics holds two world championship meets. One for the best swimmers of the world and one immediately after in the same venue for adult age group swimmers 25 to 95+ years old. This year, the event was held at the Singapore Sports Hub, in two world-class 50-meter pools.
The competition includes all aquatic sports. This year’s masters competition hosted over 7,000 athletes from over 100 countries. Most of the athletes competed in swimming events. The swimming events took place from Aug 7 to Aug 14.
John swam in five events in the men’s 70-74 year old age group, comprising men born from 1951 to 1955. He won three events, setting a championship record in each, and placed second in two others.
800-meter freestyle: First place, 10:44
200-meter freestyle: First place, 2:44
400-meter freestyle: First place, 5:08
100-meter butterfly: Second place, 1:18
200-meter butterfly: Second place, 3:11
It was a breakout meet for John.

IN TWO WEEKS: FLEUR SOHTZ TAKES ON THE ENGLISH CHANNEL!
In just two weeks, our very own Fleur Sohtz will swim the final leg of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming by crossing the English Channel, one of the most challenging swims in the world.
Less than 400 people have ever completed this achievement, and Fleur is on track to be the first female New Yorker born and raised to join their ranks. She’s already conquered the first two legs: the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 2021 and the Catalina Channel Swim in 2023. Now, it’s time for the final stretch.
Fleur has been part of Asphalt Green since our pool opened in 1993, and she embodies our mission: the power of sport can unite communities and develop future leaders. In that spirit, she has dedicated this swim to supporting AGUA scholarships and inclusive swim programming for neurodivergent children.
