SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
HELLO BROOKYLN!
We’re thrilled to announce that Asphalt Green officially became operator of the Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, today. The center was established in 2013 as a redevelopment of the longstanding Bedford Union Armory, after the community expressed its need for affordable recreational opportunities for all ages and space for local nonprofits to offer cultural, educational, and healthcare services.
Asphalt Green’s presence at Major Owens Community Center will advance our mission to provide the highest quality sports, fitness, and play programs to all New Yorkers, regardless of background, ability, or zip code. As operators, we will bring our commitments to excellence, accessibility, and community service to support the Center in offering world-class health and wellness programs and services to the Central Brooklyn community.
ASPHALT GREEN SOCCER CLUB'S IMPACT, FROM NEW YORK CITY TO SENEGAL
Last month, AGSC'S player-led philanthropic group The Forever Green Committee came together to donate uniforms and other gear to Asphalt Green's Community Sports Leagues, Soccer Unbounded, and Bouna Time Academy in Senegal. Bouna Time Academy is led by AGSC Director of Goalkeeping Bouna Coundoul and Soccer Unbounded is led by two AGSC alumni, showcasing AGSC's emphasis on leadership and community service.
While both are highly effective forms of exercise, running can offer you more benefits in less time than walking. A recent New York Times article explained some key differences between the two, and how to safely progress from daily walking to running.
National Girls & Women in Sports Day is coming up on February 5! To celebrate, we've launched our Get Girls in the Game campaign to grow girls sports in New York City through our free and low-cost Community Sports Leagues.
Asphalt Green Head Trainer Jenna Andreatta guided us through the beginner-friendly hack squat machine at our Upper East Side fitness center in a recent video, highlighting how the machine targets your quadriceps and complements any leg-day workout.
The cable machine is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment in the gym, allowing you to easily adjust workouts to your skill level and train a wide range of muscle groups. Our latest beginner's guide blog shows you essential exercises to implement the cable machine into your fitness routine.
