Asphalt Green’s Annual Gala is coming up on Thursday, May 28, and we hope you can join us for a joyful night at the Central Park Zoo in representation of Asphalt Green Basketball!

When Asphalt Green is on the rise, AG Basketball is on the rise! Proceeds from the Gala support Asphalt Green’s mission to transform lives and build community through sports, fitness, and play opportunities for all. To learn more and to purchase table sponsorships or tickets, click here.

Plus, if you join us at the Gala, you will be in great company; even parents flying solo for the night can be seated with fellow program parents at an AG Basketball table. Alternatively, you can show your support by making a donation of any size or purchasing an ad in our digital Gala journal.

As we take the program to new heights, we thank you, our basketball families, for your generous support of Asphalt Green and AG Basketball. Your generosity helps Asphalt Green break down barriers to participation that help people lead healthier, more active lives.

Every day, Asphalt Green could fill Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center with the number of New Yorkers who we serve through AG’s free sports leagues and swim lessons across the five boroughs, through subsidized recess programs in NYC public schools, and a robust scholarship program for young athletes of all backgrounds. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS & HIGHLIGHTS

• The program this winter produced five league champions: Boys 6th grade -Regional, Boys 6th grade - National, Boys 10th grade, Girls 6th grade -Regional, and Girls 8th grade - National.
• A big shoutout to our 8th grade - National Girls for capping off a 13-0 league record with a Championship.

• Coach Casey of our 5th-grade and 6th-grade girls teams was featured this month about her experience and joy in coaching our young athletes at Asphalt Green. Read about it here.
• We just wrapped up tryouts for spring teams with a record turnout of 300 players!
• Congratulations to all players selected this season. The program will host 15 teams, boys and girls, grades 4-10.

DID YOU KNOW?

• Asphalt Green currently provides free and/or reduced-fee basketball programming to 500+ youth athletes throughout NYC!
• One in every three athletes in our AAU program started in one of our Foundations classes or recreational leagues.
• This year, the basketball program will provide over $40,000 in financial aid to players on our AAU teams! For more information on financial aid opportunities, reach out to basketball@asphaltgreen.org.

SPRING TERM 2 TODDLER BASKETBALL CLASSES BEGIN ON APRIL 25

Even the littlest athletes can get moving this spring. Term 2 for Toddlers Basketball (ages 3-4) kicks off on Saturday, April 25.

This class introduces your child to basketball through fun games led by Asphalt Green's REP coaches, building confidence and developing early movement and social skills. 

LOOKING AHEAD

• April 9 // Our Community Sports League Champions and the 8th-grade boys-National team will attend the Brooklyn Nets game together to participate in the Brooklyn Nets High Five Kids Tunnel. View the announcement on Instagram.
• April 11 // The entire AAU program will open circuit play at The Chase for the Chain event in Westchester. 
• April 15 // News will drop on our Instagram page about Beginner & Advanced Skill Development clinics at The Brearley School on the UES.
• April 18 // Our 8th-grade boys-National will compete at the Pitt Fam Feast in Pittsburgh, PA. Check it out!
• April 25 // The eighth-grade boys' teams will attend the Made Hoops NYC Clash event.
• April 25 // The program will have 13 teams competing in Zero Gravity's King & Queen tournament in NYC/ upstate NY. Learn more!
